"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist, once we grow up"
- Pablo Picasso

Esparza Fútbol Clinics was born from a coach's deep love for the game of soccer combined with a great passion for teaching kids and watching each youth's creativity and unique talents bloom and grow. The goal is to use soccer as a vehicle for kids to learn those values that will also help make them good citizens and community leaders.

Esparza Fútbol Clinics' focus is on technical development through high intensity, competitive sessions. Empowering players to take the pitch ready to express their creativity with confidence and skill, while at the same time having fun.

We are committed to providing a quality soccer experience to every child who wants to play: for every paid session, Esparza FC will hold a free, open-to-all soccer clinic in conjunction with the Boys and Girls Club of East Palo Alto or other similar organizations in neighboring communities. Enabling our kids to not only recognize the issues that confront our communities, but more importantly to become part of the solution, leading them by example.

 About Coach Miguel

Picture
Miguel's roots are in the Bay Area, where he grew up, attended school and played soccer. When he was about 10 years old, a neighbor invited him to play soccer... it looked fun, so he tagged along. He's been playing ever since!

In his 8 years as  member of World United FC (Los Altos), playing both Futsal and Soccer, Miguel participated in regional, national and international tournaments throughout the US, including Dallas Cup. At Woodside High School (Woodside), he played on the Varsity team for all 4 years and as captain, his senior year, led them to the D1 semifinals.

He continued his playing career at Foothill College and earned the title of Co-League Champion in the California Coast Conference - South Division.

A series of injuries to one of his knees put a stop to his budding playing career. Nevertheless Miguel persevered, reinventing himself by finding a different way to express his passion for soccer: he started to coach.

In coaching kids, Miguel found a new dimension and new meaning  to the game he loves so much. He started by volunteering at the local Boys and Girls Club and at Juventus Sport Club (Redwood City).

He subsequently coached a team of 4th/5th graders in the San Mateo Sheriff League. From there, he went on to coach for Stanford Soccer Club (Palo Alto), Juventus Sport Club (Redwood City), and finally, Palo Alto Soccer Club (Palo Alto), where he helped create and led many boys' and girls' teams and age groups.

Having accomplished all that he had set out to, in his four years at Palo Alto Soccer Club, he decided to return to Stanford Soccer Club looking for new challenges and learning experiences. The change of scenery led him to realize that he was ready for something different from the youth soccer clubs he'd been involved in for the past number of years. Thus, the concept of Esparza FC was born, wanting to offer something more than just soccer, to our communities' youth.
Many players Miguel has coached have gone on to play soccer at the highest competitive youth level: US Developmental Academy Teams, as well as US id2 Teams. With a focus on excellence in technique and skills development, Miguel has consistently taken players to their next level.

Miguel holds an NSCAA Advanced National Diploma. He plans on furthering his coaching education because he strongly believes that when working with children, one's own learning is never done. Miguel is also CPR certified and has passed all US Club Soccer and CYSA background checks.
